“Journal writing is a voyage to the interior.”

~ Christina Baldwin

Still struggling with having the mental bandwidth for things. When I work on one thing the other things drop off. Lately, that “one thing” has been a lot of declutterring but my Kung Fu numbers and training didn’t get done as they should. This comes with its share of guilt. I never intended for this to be the case when I signed up for I Ho Chuan. However, it definitely supports Cal Newport’s statement about “Slow Productivity” and “Deep Work”, which is “do fewer things”. When I try to do everything, I get next to nothing done. When I concentrate on one thing, I get quite a lot done… one thing at a time.

That said, I’m feeling really good every time I get another space decluttered. With each one it feels like there’s more room to breathe and more mental bandwidth available. I feel that this can only benefit my Kung Fu in the long run.

As I write this, I have another truck load of stuff that is leaving my house for good. My bedroom is nearly finished (just have the closets and one shelf unit to do now). Nothing is being stored on the floor anymore… oops! Except my Kung Fu bag. My living room is almost presentable for guests now, with only one pile left on the floor that is made up of things that belong to other people who don’t live in the house. Hopefully they come get their stuff soon!

Numbers

Pushups/equivalent: 2141

Sit-ups/equivalent: 1384

Pushups and sit-ups are still a bane for me. I’m going for consistency rather than numbers at the moment, for which my back and shoulders are much happier with me. That said, I haven’t been consistent lately.

Weapon Form: 258

Hand Form: 249

RAoK: 49 – I do them, it’s just that I still forget to write them down. Hoping that the improving mental bandwidth will solve this in the long run.

Sparring: 145

Kilometres: 865

Memorize Mastery: On of the things that got lost in concentrating on “one thing”. Again, hoping that the improving mental bandwidth will make this easier because memorizing this has not been easy so far. Memorization never used to be a such a problem.

Nurture Relationships: Still struggle to be the first to reach out to people but slowly improving.

Blogging: behind… again.

Decluttering my life: Wish it would happen faster but happy with the progress so far.

Great Coat project: still back-burnered until autumn
