Checking In

There are several things I would like to go over today.

Training

My personal training, at home, has not gone as well as I would like it to. Haven’t spent the time on it that I would like to, and it shows in some of my numbers. However, I’m still thrilled that I’ve been able to keep up the pace for my situps so far this year. Even if I can’t do it for the rest of the year that is still a huge improvement for me!

Perhaps I’m not prioritizing the training enough, but I have so many other responsibilities with more deadlines coming up fast than I would like. If nothing else, I’m usually so tired that I’ve been sleeping like the dead.

Planning to go to open training this weekend. Maybe that will help.

Mend a relationship – turned that into Nurture Relationships

This one is hard for me, as I don’t feel as adept at it as some people seem to be.

I did something recently that I don’t think I’ve ever done before. I reached out to some friends and teammates to work on a special project for our Permaculture farm. The project is making Slovenian style beehives in Langstroth hive dimensions. I’m not comfortable asking people to do something, essentially, for free. People deserve to be compensated for their hard work. However, my daughter has been getting the word out and has generated interest in what we are doing to such an extent that people have volunteered time and plants to the project. I don’t know how she does it, but it made me a little braver, so I asked. People can always say “no”.

It is amazing to me the people that are out there that are willing to donate some of their precious time to a project that is regenerative to the earth. Getting such help may well make it easier to move things forward at the farm, which would be nice because there are so many systems to get into place that I haven’t really been able to keep up with. This has also made us think that maybe we need to create a not-for-profit (NFP) business since there are things we want to do that probably are never going to be profitable monetarily but would be a benefit to the community in terms of knowledge – measuring and evaluating results of what we do for regeneration purposes. Never worked with NFPs though so…

Organization

Blogging - A subject that is often talked about at IHC. I find that it helps me organizing my thoughts, not just for IHC but for the rest of my responsibilities as well. Nothing is perfect, but it does help. I think that may be why my organization is improving… I think. We’ll see if my organization serves me for the rest of the year.

Taking on too much – Still a work in progress! However, something happened recently that made me feel a little better. It made me think of something one of my daughter’s coworkers said to a customer once, “bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine”. That is what happened, again, recently to me. Someone else was trying to make something an emergency for me when I was on schedule for everything. It felt nice to be on schedule and to be firm in that knowledge! In the past I would have given that “squeaky wheel” more “grease” but this time I chose not to let it get to me as much and carried on with my work.
