As mentioned before, most of my numbers won't be met by the end of this Chinese year. I'm too far behind on my situps and pushups to be able to reach the goal of 50000 for the year. I lost my sketchbook (and watercolour paints) before I could fill it. I wasn't diligent enough on my forms practice and sparring. I didn't have enough time to do the Insulin Resistance research that I had planned to...
... Suddenly, I realized...
I did, and am still doing, a lot of stuff this year!
Done over 22000 situps (or equivalent)
Done over 21000 pushups (or equivalent)
Walked over 1450 km this year
Done over 900 random acts of kindness this year (that I remembered to log)
Logged 20 hours of time researching Insulin Resistance
Journalled all year to an extent I never have, ever, before.
Written about 40 blog posts
Learned how to use a bullet journal
Learned more about goal setting and planning than ever before
Took on teaching three different year long courses (and now a fourth). Learning to plan more effectively made this possible to be successful in this project.
Revised half of, and now revising the other half, of those three courses. Again the learning to plan more effectively made this accomplishment possible.
Created my first ever quarterly plan, using a kanban board
Am preparing for my first ever online video seminar as an instructor
Learned, and continue to learn, about body weight exercise. This is a benefit from being injured (shoulder). Thank you everyone who have given me tips for this.
As a result of the new exercises I've learned I was able to do a cobra pose without pain or stiffness. It felt like the most amazing bendable spine! Funny the things you don't realize you have a problem with until something changes for the better.
As a result of the new exercises I'm slowly putting numbers on again for the situps and pushups
As a result of the new knowledge about exercise I feel like I can move forward more effectively in my Kung Fu. I may not be doing all the forms etc like I should but I'm doing exercises instead to facilitate my capacity to do what's expected in Kung Fu, instead of just feeling like my body is fighting me the whole way.
I bought exercise rings (gymnastics rings) and have been slowly building up grip strength enough to do a free hang. This also helps prevent the nerve pain caused by the shoulder problems. Black belt testing requires pullups/chinups, so I figured I better get started early building up strength. Next I'm working on passive vs. active hang.
I learned that I need to do less in order to accomplish more. I have a habit of taking on too much, which leads to failure at many of them because there simply isn't time to do them all.
I learned that by saying "yes" to too much (I like to help people) that I was saying "no" to other things that really matter to me.
These are all things that, if I hand never joined the I Ho Chuan team, would probably never have happened.
I love that they have happened!!!
