First Week's Accomplishments

Survived my first live, in person, Chinese New Year Banquet as an I Ho Chuan team member. It was a lot of work, but also very enjoyable. Perhaps I’m biased but I think it went very well. Thanks everyone for all your hard work making the banquet a reality.

This is the first time I’ve ever been able to do 1000 or more situps in one week without any back pain. Yay! Stamina has also been a considerable roadblock. Here’s hoping this is something I can keep going throughout the rest of the year because it’s been a long time (years now) working up to the ability. I’m finding that getting them done first thing in the morning helps. There is a sense of accomplishment that I can carry through the rest of the day and there’s also a nice feeling that any others I do in the rest of the day (e.g. In class) are kind of like a free bonus. It does take me quite a while to get them done; about 20 to 30 minutes because of the breaks I need in between sets of 25 to 50 (depending on how I’m feeling).

Pushups are my bane. I can do planks without pain but not for as long as I would like. Pushups are out of the question almost entirely. I did dig out my two pound free weights again to use (kind of like a bench press) to work towards the goal of pushups but it only took 25 repetitions to cause pain… and not the “good” kind.

Who knew that making marmalade could negatively impact the ability to do pushups and planks? I know now! All that stirring and chopping really did a number on me. This also reduced my numbers this week for pushups/equivalent.

Haven’t done any drawing lately because I have some sewing projects I’m trying to get finished. Speaking of which, I got the wool broadcloth and linen washed for the Great Coat project.

This is my first year creating my own form, staves. I’ve marked down a “1” for each time I do research to figure out what to do. It seemed reasonable to me that it should count towards my repetitions goal to some extent since I am actually working on having a form to practice. If any of my team mates have any ideas on what would be good in this form I would love to hear about it.
