The other night during class it was interesting to see things become easier as soon as I changed my footwork. Ever since I started Kung Fu I’ve frequently asked about where my feet should be. I guess I’m fixated on it because of my education in architectural drafting; they tended to focus a lot on foundations in drafting class (and, oddly, lettering. We didn’t have drafting computers at the time). The structure just doesn’t stand up well unless it’s got a good foundation under it. There may be some traditional Japanese building designers that may disagree but that’s a rabbit hole for another time.
We’ve often talked in class about foundations being things like the basic moves, or techniques, we learn. That would be one type of foundation. Another is the feet. When my feet were in the right place, the flow of the rest of my body went better. Some days, like last Wednesday, the difference can feel quite dramatic.

Wrote this blog but didn’t get it posted when I meant to. So, numbers will be posted with a following blog post as I catch up on the publishing of blog posts this week.
