There are a few firsts to report.
Front break-falls have been something I didn’t do, mostly because of fear. I did a couple of them from on my knees this past week on the mats. Not sure if I’ve thoroughly broken through the fear but it’s a start!
Shoulder rolls are another one that bothers me. There’s a combination of fear and the dizziness that they can cause. Did three foward shoulder rolls in a row without much thought this week. I did go home with some neck pain afterwards because I didn’t quite land the third one right but it’s the first time I’ve been able to just do them without all the hesitation and some fear. Thankfully my wonderful massage therapist was able to help me with the results of my bad form.
The sequence of kicks in the hand form Da Mu Hsing is something that I have long struggled with my balance on. This past week I was able to do all of the form, that I know (1 to halfway through part 5), with my eyes closed. I’ve never been able to do those kicks with my eyes closed before!
NUMBERS
Pushups: 749
Sit-ups: 475 – got some recommendations for this from the massage therapist that should avoid back pain and strengthen some muscles that she noticed I still need to work on to improve my core and posture.
Weapon form: 44
Hand Form: 186
Random Acts of Kindness: 18 – though I should probably included the hours of sewing that coat in this. If I finish the coat this year, can I say that counts for at least 1000 RAoK? :-D
Sparring: 70
Kilometres: 273
Memorize Mastery: Not as diligent on this as previously. I had a routine for this but it died. Time to find a new one.
Nurture Relationships: Dog training has allowed me to nurture some relationships I had previously not been very successful at. Thanks to this the dogs have finally been introduced to sheep and we should be moving into a round pen soon to progress their training for herding.
Blogging: 9
Declutter: Been trying to do little declutters and prevent “clutter creep” but I really need to tackle the next big section of the house.
Greatcoat: Was hoping to work on this again this weekend but now that spring is here I’ve spent the weekend doing other things, such as training dogs on sheep and working on a tractor. Sewing is usually an activity for when it’s not growing season, so I’m not sure how much will be able to get done for the next few months.
