That seems to be the theme right now, uncertainty. Concerns about the coronavirus have caused schools and workplaces to close. There seems to be a domino effect playing out, as each place closes it causes another to close. The supermarket shelves are devoid of "staple" foods such as flour, sugar, canned goods, and many frozen foods. Of course there is also "the great toilet paper shortage of 2020".
Is it wrong that the herbalist in me finds it ironic that the shelves of immune boosting herbal supplements are mostly untouched?
How will all this play out? How will people manage? How long will this go on? How will people afford to pay their bills? Uncertainty!
But let's leave all that negative stuff for the media, which seems to love all that.
I found myself wondering, what might be the positive aspects of all this be?
Here are a few of what I've come up with:
The people at Silent River Kung Fu (SRKF) have come together as a team to get cleaning and sanitizing done on a more frequent basis. Thank you everyone! Our Sifu Brinker has been getting creative about how to bring the value of Kung Fu to all of us even if we must remain at home. Thank you for all that work Sifu!
People often complain that they don't get enough time with their families. This is a good opportunity to spend some quality time at home with them.
One of the questions I have to ask clients during consultations is about their diet. I've had to adapt the question, "how often do you eat meals at home?" to, "how often do you make your own meals?". If the grocery stores are any indication, it looks like more people will be eating more home made meals.
Of course, there is the obvious advantage of significantly reducing the spread of this virus.
This is an opportunity to practice living in the now and not waste precious energy on worrying about things we can't control.
This may be a chance for some to try out online learning opportunities such as Coursera, Skillshare, and Khan Academy (and probably many others I don't know about).
What positive things can you think of in this time of uncertainty?
