Gathering Moss

The stone is rolling but verrrrrrry slowly. And therefore, still gathering moss. It's been very hard to get that momentum back up that I lost due to taking a break to get a bunch of stuff done in my home clinic. So, I'm terribly behind on my numbers!

This had me very worried until I read a comment today that Sifu Brinker made about not having enough hours in the day to get everything done that needs to get done, and that when you find yourself in that position you need to take a week off.

Well, I took more than a week but I think it may be worth it.

During the week off you are supposed to (1) organize and de-clutter your environment. This is what I've been doing and still have plenty of it to do. All that reorganizing and purging has been great! As one area got cleaned out it made things possible in other areas. Now the clinic feels bigger. It cleared the way to have a room that stands mostly empty so that it can have multiple uses ("stacking function" as they say in Permaculture circles). It can be the examination room, Kung Fu practice room, class room, etc. My desk is almost completely clear of clutter - it makes it a nice place to go to rather than the chore it was previously. And yes, it feels like the mind is gradually getting de-cluttered too.

Recognizing what fires you have lit (2), stop chasing them, and manage your time. I knew when I started IHC that this was going to be a huge challenge for me. I still feel like I'm running to put out fires but there aren't quite as many of them as before. Hopefully they will continue to diminish. My physical journal (as opposed to the digital ones I've tried so many times before) has continued to be very helpful to me being more organized this year, sometimes in unexpected ways. Hopefully this will mean that I get better at implementing that incremental progression.

Taking consistent action (3) is the next hardest thing for me. I do best when I can concentrate on one thing until it's completed, but there are so many things! How to prioritize them? Maybe if I break them down into smaller things that I can concentrate on?

This first year of IHC feels like it's turning into a, lets learn what does and doesn't work for me in accomplishing my goals, rather than a year of actually accomplishing them. Hopefully, that's a good thing?

Time to go rub some more moss off the slowly rolling stone.
