Leveling Up My Journalling

We’ve heard it again and again, “Journal!”. Since last week’s blog I’ve been leveling up my journalling. The tracking I’ve learned to do since the start of my IHC journey has been valuable in figuring out patterns and where I get myself stuck. That tracking has made me aware of patterns that tend to interrupt my plans for training, numbers, etc. Tracking has made it more possible to make appropriate (well, I hope they are) changes to mitigate those roadblocks in my journey to mastery.

One of the things I’ve done every day this past week is Morning Pages. Three pages of stream of consciousness writing every morning. I have found, so far, that this allows me to purge a lot of thoughts jumbling around in my head. Among other things, that makes it easier to meditate. That said, there has been a lot going on this past week so I didn’t get as much meditation done as I would have liked. Still got a couple times in, so I’ll count that as a win.

I’m also leveling up my journalling by asking myself certain questions.

  • What am I grateful for?

  • Daily affirmation: I am…

  • What would make today great?

  • What three amazing things happened today (include small things)?

  • How could I have made today better?

With regards to goals, such as the journey to mastery I want to try including (I’m thinking on a weekly basis):

  • What went well?

  • What didn’t go well?

  • What can be improved?

  • What did I like?

  • What was a slog?

  • What do I want to continue?

  • What do I want to stop?

That last question is more about determining what is still serving me, or not, on my journey.

Has this all made me get my numbers up where I want? Some yes, some no. It’s also hard to tell with all the distractions that have been happening lately, such as worrying about the wildfires and evacuations so close to the farm, family home and/or visiting from out of town, Student Clinic, etc. It does however make me much more aware of what is happening so that I can make adjustments to how I will deal with things. Without that awareness I would not have been able to see what needs to be adjusted.

Maybe I’ll use those questions to structure next week’s blog (check in).

The other thing about leveling up my journalling is that it made writing this blog post easier. I just looked through my journal at what I wrote about and picked some stuff out of there to share here.
