Over 900 repetitions and I finally remember this?

It wasn’t until this morning that I remembered something about using a sword, and it’s closely linked to how we are taught to punch in Kung Fu. Of course I remembered the analogy of holding a bird but I forgot about the slight loosening and tightening of the grip depending on what you’re doing. Maybe I’m off base here because it’s not something I’ve been told about in Kung Fu (re the sword) but it was something I was taught with fencing, and I equate it to what we’ve been taught about punching in Kung Fu. So, in the practicing of the form this morning I was thinking about how I was gripping, when, and why.
