A failed experiment in seeing what my tools could do. While it was a fail I still learned from it.

We can be our own worst critics sometimes. We say things to ourselves, about ourselves, that we would never say to someone else. Why are we so hard on ourselves?

The road to mastery isn’t paved with perfection. It’s paved with failures. We try, sometimes we succeed, we find our limits, and we fail. Then, if we are really masters, we get back up and do it all over again. Hopefully, each time we get up we are that much closer to mastery, or at least excellence.

I’ve heard several artists say that all artists have at least 10,000 bad drawings in them and, if they want to achieve mastery as artists, their task is to get all those bad drawings out. Allow yourself to draw 10,000 bad drawings… and draw some more. This is the road to mastery. We have permission to fail. In fact, it’s encouraged.

Giving myself permission to fail is something I keep having to actively remind myself to do.
