The Back Burner

It's a dangerous place sometimes to put things, even when it's necessary. That is where my Kung Fu has been for the past few weeks. It has been dangerously close to losing its "heat" all-together because I wasn't even doing my situps, pushups, etc.
In explanation, I had been trying desperately to balance my responsibilities as a Clinical Herbal Therapist in these COVID times with my Kung Fu and it just wasn't working. I spoke briefly with Sifu Brinker about my concerns about using work (especially when I work from home) as a reason (or was it an excuse?) to miss Kung Fu commitments, and he pointed out that "work is work". Thus I decided to back burner a lot of Kung Fu stuff to get the work done.
The work in question is temporary, re-organizing and renovating the clinic, whereas Kung Fu is lifelong. I felt like I needed to recognize that difference. I allowed myself to back-burner Kung Fu for the short time and focus on getting the clinic done. That allowed me to be distracted by that obligation for a shorter time than if I kept trying to do everything all at once. Bonus, I discovered that I'll be able to use my new physical examination space as a practice space for Kung Fu. Yay!!! It will be just a case of fold up the examination table and, viola! Of course the cleaning associated with COVID will still be a factor. It's only about 8' x 11', but that's more space than anywhere else in my house, and if I can get some other stuff done I may be able to expand that to 11' x 11'. So, in it's way, something supposedly not Kung Fu related still benefited my Kung Fu.
It feels really good to get Kung Fu off the back burner and start turning the heat up. It's slower going than I would like but at least it's going.
